Things you must know to get started
Creating your SkillSoft Campus login account
SkillSoft (formerly CBT or Smartforce) interactive courseware provides training in 260 courses selected for use at CSM from the SkillSoft catalog of available courses. Courses cover a wide variety of topics including basic through advanced use of Microsoft Windows operating systems and Office products (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, Outlook), Unix, programming (C/C++, Java), LAN technologies, web authoring and publishing, and other products and topics. To view the curricula and courses, you need to follow the setup steps and then connect to the courses. After you login to the SkillSoft campus system, use the "Help" button to learn how to use the system, however you should ignore all references or instructions about downloading the SkillSoft Course Player. The version we run uses Java applets and does not require a custom course player. The courses use a graphical interface that leads students through a subject, simulating the technology and requiring students to interact with the course. Students may work through all of the modules in a training course or, if they have some experience with the application, skip or skim through the modules that contain material with which they are familiar. You can take CSM's SkillSoft courses via the web from on or off campus, or if you are connected via the campus modem pool or logged into the campus VPN. Your web browser must have java enabled.
Please note that SkillSoft courses move a lot of data back and forth between the server and your workstation when you start and end course sessions. Be patient until you become accustomed to the delay.
