Navigating CSM's Website

The Colorado School of Mines, like most institutions, does not have a single web site or server.  Web pages within the mines.edu domain may be distributed among many servers across the campus.  Our primary site, www.mines.edu, provides an entry point and organizational structure to find information about CSM and offers links to information and web sites throughout the campus.  The Mines home page includes "audience-based" and "organizational-based" navigational schemes.

  • Please note that some pages within CSM's site may be accessible only to computers within the mines.edu domain, meaning they must be directly connected to our campus network or modem pools.  Other pages within CSM's site may require authentication based on information provided to students, faculty, or staff.
    Navigation Features:
  • Our audience-based navigation includes links of interest to prospective students,  current students,  alumni and friends of the institution,  faculty and staff,  and visitors to the campus or web site. These links are located along the upper left of the (graphical) Mines home page.
  • Our organizational-based navigation includes links to general information about CSM, current news and events, calendars, the library and information organized by academic programs, campus outreach programs and research areas.  These links are located along the lower left of the (graphical) Mines home page.
  • Flyout Menus: For JavaScript enabled web browsers
In addition to the main navigation links along the left hand side of the Mines home page, as you move your mouse over the links, you will be presented with related links in a "flyout menu". The flyout menus provide quick access to a subset of the category links. To see all of a category's links, click on the main navigation link itself (e.g., click on the "Prospective Students" link or "Academics" link, etc.).
  • QuickLinks:
The QuickLinks feature (in the upper right of the Mines home page) provides quick access to frequently visited web pages within the Mines web site. By "rolling over" the QuickLinks button (JavaScript enabled web browsers) or selecting the QuickLinks arrow (non JavaScript enabled browsers), the QuickLinks menu will drop down for quick access. These links may change periodically throughout the year.
  • Spotlight:
The Spotlight feature, provides quick access to news or information links that may be of interest to the Mines community and visitors.
  • Search Tools:
Our search engine provides information from most web servers on campus.  To search CSM web pages, enter your search terms into the search box on the Mines home page, select the "CSM Web" radio button and click "GO".   To search the online campus Directory, enter a name into the search box on the Mines home page, select the "People" radio button and click "GO".

Alternatively, you can select the search link from many campus pages to search for campus web pages, locate or search campus directories, and find other indexes.

    • Use the Fast Phone & E-mail Directory (on the search page) to find faculty and staff telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of faculty, staff, and students.  Student telephone numbers are not published online. To customize your search, select the Advanced Directory Search link.  Please note that entries for new students may not show up in the directory until two weeks into a new semester.  Otherwise, information is updated nightly.
    • Use the Fast Search (All CSM servers) for general web page searches.  To extensively customize your search, choose the Advanced link.
    Mines home page versions
  • Graphical/JavaScript Mines home page:
The "graphical/JavaScript" version of the Mines home page, is aimed at providing quick navigation designed for target audiences and based on major campus organizational units. With JavaScript enabled on your web browser, by browsing the flyout menus and QuickLinks, you may be able to find the information you are looking for with one click!
  • No JavaScript Mines home page:
For those who have JavaScript disabled or have older web browsers that do not support JavaScript, the "graphical/no JavaScript" version of the Mines home page, provides the same features as the graphical/JavaScript version with the exception of the flyout menus. All of the menu items provided in the flyout menus are available via the main navigation links.
  • Text Only Mines home page:
The "text only" version of the Mines home page, provides a fast loading, non-graphical view of the Mines web site. All of the information provided via the main graphical Mines home page (with the JavaScript flyout menus and QuickLinks) is provided in the text only version.

  • Student home pages are the responsibility of individual students to develop and maintain.  All web sites and pages maintained on CSM servers or served through the mines.edu domain are required to comply with applicable CSM policies.
